The Names of God

“Hope is in the name of God, the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hope is when you compare your suffering to the infinite, immeasurable love and grace of God.” Nick Vujicic

Hope is in the name of God!

There is a popular Christian song by the group 7eventh Time Down, Just Say Jesus. The chorus goes like this:

When you don’t know what to say
 Just say Jesus
There is power in the name
 The name of Jesus …

There is power in the name of Jesus! To bring hope, peace, forgiveness … breakdown strongholds … relieve pain … overcome fear and doubt … find purpose … resist sin.

In Him, we have all we need to walk through dark days in victory!

Beautifully, scripture gives us hundreds and hundreds of names of our triune God, to help us understand specific aspects of His character and nature. Here are just three of the names of God to remind you of His might, goodness and love:

El Elyon, God Most High. “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” (Psalm 57:2)

Bill Gates … President Joe Biden … Amazon. There is no person, or business …. no matter how wealthy, influential, or massive that holds a candle to our God. Nothing should be elevated or worshipped over Him. He rules supreme over all creation. You can trust in Him.

Jehovah-Jireh. Refers to God as our provider. “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Are you in need today? God will not withhold any good thing from you, according to His Will for you. Don’t panic! Seek Him first.

El Roi, the God who Sees Me. “So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.’”

The “she” in this scripture is Hagar, from the story of Sarah and Abraham. Sarah’s maidservant and the mother of Abraham’s son, Ishmael. In a moment when she was cast out, abused and mistreated, God saw Hagar and made lasting promises to her.

In the same way, God sees you. You are not forgotten! He sees you, and He loves you.

My prayer this week—Thank you, Jesus for your great name! Help me to always seek you first, recognizing that you are a God of love, provision, strength, and comfort. You see me for who I am and love me. Thank you for the many names of God found in the Bible that help me to understand your character, your goodness, and your love.
