Why Worry?

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.” —Corrie Ten Boom

If we trust the promises of Jesus to protect us and provide a hope and a future  why would we worry? There truly is no need!

Even when an economic downturn threatens our security.

Even when a new virus attacks the health of tens of thousands … and the function of our society.

Even when political tensions and looming elections bring uncertainty and confusion.

 Even when! Especially when.

At the heart of worry is feeling out of control, right?

And what comes out of worry? Absolutely nothing! Well, nothing profitable. We might, however, have less hair — more headaches — more sleepless nights. Worry accomplishes nothing of significance, yet it quickly breeds more worry, confusion, and pain.

Plus, worry reduces our effectiveness. We can’t do what needs to be done when crippled by worry.

Jesus clearly addresses worry in Matthew 6:25-34 when He says:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?  So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Do not worry! Instead, cast your cares on Him. Lay your burdens at the cross. Walk in a manner worthy of the calling of Christ, with your eyes focused solely on Him.

Hope in the Lord offers renewed strength and the ability to power through difficult times. This is what we need, today and always!

My prayer this week — Lord, in these days of trouble and trial, help me place my worries and cares at your feet. To find HOPE and STRENGTH in you alone. I believe your promise to meet my every need, forgive my every sin, and empower me, through the Holy Spirit, to rise above the circumstances and difficulties in life. To run and not grow weary! Thank you for your mighty strength that proves itself perfect when I am weak. Please turn my worry to trust, my fear to faith. Allow me to be effective for you, no matter what.
